One word that described today well is "mundane". It was absolutely boring with nothing much happening. The day started with Science. As usual, when Mr. Gabriel neared our class, a few of my classmates warned the rest of us by calling him by his first name. Unfortunately, Mr. Gabriel could hear them from where he was and was quite angry. Although he did not scold us, we all felt ashamed. Well, most of us did. The rest of the period was basically understanding the various science concepts that were very complex.
During Mother Tongue, the teacher complained that we were using too much of the class time doing the TFU project. He was relieved when we finally finished the TFU. He also gave us his number if we encountered problems with the subject. Many of us joked about it, though up till now I do not know why. Other than that, the lesson was quite MUNDANE. I felt dizzy all of a sudden in class but after doing the "brushing my eyebrows" technique, I no longer felt dizzy.
English started off with the usual joking by Mr. Hamilton that he was the highlight of our day, after which we wrote down words for our personal dictionary. We then continued with the comprehension exercises that was MUNDANE. As usual, nobody did them seriously. OPW was the next period that I expected to be more exciting. We went to the computer lab and it was a rather nice end to a mostly MUNDANE school day. Although we had to do work, it was still enjoyable in a way that we got to use the computers.
At home, I spent a long and wasted hour changing my blog skin, tidying up my blog and such. Imagine: one precious hour in my life wasted doing something MUNDANE! I then had to write this blog post which took me about forty-five minutes. The rest of the afternoon was a good time of relaxing reading the newspapers as I like reading about the current affairs of the world. And that concluded my MUNDANE day.
I dragged my feet to school as I had to go back after a wonderful weekend. During CDE-TTT, the Peer Support Leaders (PSL) came in, the whole class was full of shrieks, cries, moans as well as shouts. This part is not unusual; nobody cared about what the PSLs wanted us to do and we just chatted amongst ourselves. Our task: to give proposals on how to raise money for the President's Challenge. We came up with many silly ideas; amputating our limbs and selling them or begging money off people on the street and such, but finally decided on having a fun fair. However, it was hard to plan on as it was tedious, but we eventually did it. We all felt a great sense of satisfaction.
For Science, we had to understand the various parts of the Circulatory System, but it was not easy at all. Mr. Gabriel also described how blood in the heart moved through valves by using his hands to create a hole in the middle and putting a pen through it to illustrate blood moving through it. The sick-minded people in our class laughed hysterically of course. Just before Maths, I was afraid that there would be a graded quiz that I did not study for. Fortunately, it was not to be. And again, Ms. Lim gave us an awful lot of homework - at least to most of us. After much pestering from the class, she graciously pushed back the deadline to hand up the assignment. We felt a sense of "victory", but still lamented that there was so much homework.
Home Economics swept by, and not in a good way. We had to complete the sewing of the teddy bear's head, but there was just not enough time. We eventually had to bring it back home for completion. When I reached home, I rushed to complete the homework as there was so much of it. I finally finished the work in the early evening. Later in the night, our family got together to play Monopoly. Although I went bankrupt at the end of the game, I think it was a good bonding activity. I later had time on my own reading the book "Rice without Rain" by Minfong Ho.
Literature was the first period for the day. All of us hoped we would get back our literature essays which we failed to receive the previous lesson. In the end, Mr. Tan did not come as he was absent from school. It was a bittersweet feeling; bitter because we could not get back our literature essays, and sweet because we could do anything during those two periods. Our happiness was short-lived as we had to do worksheets on the subject. Most of the class did not care about doing the worksheets as usual and talked amongst one another. To our surprise, Mr. Maran suddenly came into the class and reprimanded us on not doing the worksheets which led to many other topics.
During Mother Tongue, we had to do a graded TFU assignment but we did not have enough time to complete it. All of us were afraid that the teacher would just mark the uncompleted assignments and we prayed desperately that that would not occur. Maths seemed to pass rather quickly as we learnt the slightly complicating algebraic identities concept. It was a long time before the whole class fully grasped the concepts. Ms. Lim was also a major contributor to our weekend homework; she gave us lots and lots of homework.
History was one of the best periods of the day. When Mr. Thiru realised how ahead we were in the learning of the different chapters, even he was amazed that he managed to teach so quickly. History was also filled with funny moments from the start to finish. For example, Gavin said something once in Chinese. Because of that, he got punished but in a humorous and interesting way that the whole class was ringing with the sounds of laughter. The period ended off with us finishing the YouTube version of a Discovery Channel documentary on the History of Singapore. What a marvellous way to end off the week!
CCA was tiring and I have a rather neutral view towards it. It was rather intensive as we were training for an upcoming competition. And I ended off the day with a relaxing game on Wii, which was my special moment doing something I enjoyed. A perfect example of a good balance of work and play!
Tuesday was a particularly interesting day. The day started with History, where the whole class was a bit rowdy and Mr. Thiru decided to give us worksheets to do instead of starting on a new chapter. Just for extra information, Mr. Thiru is famous for teaching the chapters at incredibly fast rates! The worksheets were on Source-Based questions and we were all reluctant to do them as we were lazy. When we finally started work, we had a difficult time as most of us forgot the techniques on how to do Source-Based questions. To solve this, we discussed the questions and eventually was able to complete it. English was full of funny moments. One time was when the Chinese teacher came in and said something in Mandarin and after that, Mr. Hamilton claimed he could have said it better, even though he did not know Chinese at all. The whole class then doubled over in laughter. We later had to read a segment of the autobiography of Nelson Mandela and Mr. Hamilton, trying to be amusing, adopted an unusual African accent to read it out and sent us into laughter.
Recess came and went and it was soon Chinese lesson. We got into groups and discusssed for our TFU assignment. Since we finished early, we were allowed to do whatever we wanted for the rest of the period. The class was abuzz with activity as we all chatted amongst one another.
We were all in anticipation when our Literature teacher came in as we were excited to know the marks for the essay that we did the previous week. To our dismay, we did not get it back. The lesson proper was basically about understanding Shakespeare. Lai Hsin then gave a very comical recital of Shakespeare's play Macbeth and we all laughed in unison.
For Maths, nothing much happened except that Ms. Lim commented that our class was quite intelligent. This put us all in a good mood. What a wonderful way to end school! At home, I rejoiced that there was no homework. Due to the increased amount of free time, I had wanted to revise what the teachers had taught that day but I did not have enough willpower. I then made a resolution to be more disciplined and to work harder. That problem was eventually solved in the following days.
My time alone doing something something I enjoyed was after school when I read and finished a book titled "The Missing Chopstick". It was a book that I enjoyed throughly as it was full of suspense and mystery. My time with my family was after dinner when we watched a Hong Kong drama called "The "Revolving Doors of Vengeance"which is a drama about a hotel and everybody's fight to own it. Many say that watching shows together is not a good way of bonding, but I disagree. This was a time whwere all of us could sit down and all do something we enjoyed.
Today was rather interesting with many unexpected surprises. The day kicked off with CDE-TTT where we talked on resilience. We were to write words to describe ourselves, whether they were strengths or weaknesses. We then watched an inspirational movie about a man who had no limbs at all. Despite his condition, he still had the indomitable spirit to live life to the fullest. This video really touched my heart as I thought that compared to him, we were in no postion to grumble about our difficulties as they are nowhere as difficult as his. Moving on, we then had to write one of our greatest weaknesses on a slip of paper and get into groups. Choosing a few slips of paper, we had to think of strategies to overcome the weaknesses and present it in front of the class. The whole class was rather rowdy; we messed around and were not serious.
For Science period, Mr. Gabriel rearranged our seating positions permanently. The class was full of shock and dismay as we were not able to sit with our friends and in addition, we had to sit with people we resent. We had another surprise later: Mr. Gabriel claimed that he was over 50, which was unbelievable as he looked quite young.
Recess finally came and since Daniel had damaged my ruler, he compensated me for it. The minutes flew by and it was soon Maths period which was rather mundane. Ms. Lim also reprimanded the class for having the wrong presentations for our questions. Those who were guilty had to stand but fortunately, I had the right presentation. The day was spiced up with Home Economics which was next. We stared cutting the cloth for the bear but it was rather challenging as the scissors were rather blunt and that we got the wrong type of cloth. Since it was the last period, we were rather restless and noisy. As a result, we didn't manage to complete the work and had to do it as homework.
The time after school was a good time of enjoying myself relaxing as there was little homework. Before dinner, I had a good time with my family playing table tennis. The event bonded all of us together as a family. In the darkness of the night, I settled in my favourite couch doing one of my favourite activities: poetry writing! Many think it is rather abnormal, but I write poems to express my thoughts and feelings - somewhat like a poetry diary writing. It also helps me to relieve the day's stress in a way.
I am now blogging (obviously) in school!!!! As I said in the previous post, we have an English school assignment to blog and it will be graded. Not these few posts of course, but we have to do official blog posts from 18 Jan and everything will be very formal...Because of this, our English teacher Mr. Hamilton has been bringing us to the school It lab these few days during English period! Imagine: 1 hour and 10 mins using the computer to blog in a fully air-conditioned and comfortable room. Since many of us have already set up our blogs , we are just slacking away doing stuff on the internet. I cannot give the details as a certain Mr. Hamilton might see this post. Mr. Ham if u r reading this thx so much!!
Today, school ended sooo late, but most of the time was filled with unimportant things like briefing (1 hour long!!!) and Home Econ. The Home Econ was quite interesting I must say as we learnt many different embroidery stitches like the blanket, short and feather stitches. Who knew that sewing was so much more than what most people think it is??? Anyway, the GCE O'Level results came out today, and all students were free to go and view the results. I did not do so as I thought it would be rather boring...and I was right! One of my class mates told me that it was boring as nobody cried because they had bad results...hahaha.
Just came back from Chinese tuition... so glad that it is FINALLY over. anyway, I just have too much homework that must be done online. I have to reasearch on "why study shakespeare?", view a powerpoint and gather pics for a bio assignment. My eyes seem to be pOPPing out... have to take an eye break but a bit lazy...no wonder i have such thick glasses. If this goes on my myopia degree would reach 1000 plus! Argh! have sudden gastric or stomach pain, which i dun noe... got to go!
It is finally Saturday, and the end of a VERY loooong week. I think my calves are still aching from foot drill yesterday and day before that. Well, even though today is the weekend, I still have tuition starting soon!!! Argh! Its chinese tuition btw since my Chinese is like sooooo super lousy. I have Chinese tuition twice as a week as a result...And Daniel, if u r reading this, thx 4 the help with my blog :)
Well, I had to create this blog for a school assignment, not that I wish to blog... I dun even have the time and effort to blog.. Anyway, today was like any other boring day with no suprises or excitements, unfortunately. At least there was Science period today, and I love Science!! Since there is nothing else to write, I will sign off here.
